help with new comp/troubleshooting

When i start my computer up first time all fans run, al llights light up, I get a beep from the motherboard. but monitor does not turn on/recognize it? using a hdmi cable. What does this mean?

Have you tried using a different cable/video port (maybe DVI or VGA)?

i have an ati radeon 5850. I only have an hdmi cable. because i didnt have a DVI cable to connect to it... do you think this could be the problem? THe monitor is hdmi and dvi compatible

mobo does not have any monitor hook ups.

Remove the video card from the computer and plug the video cable into the onboard graphics. This will help diagnose.

It's more likely that your video card went bad than a cable going bad. I just suggested the cable for testing in case you had one lying around (in other words, free). You could always try reseating the video card and make sure the fan on it is turning correctly.
