That came out to 1400?

How much more would it cost to upgrade the cpu to a 965, or 975? and/or the GPU to a 5870 or a 5850? I assume a lot more but wouldn't hurt to know.

Edit: I added it up, it was something like 1370 before rebates, it's late and I wasn't too careful adding it up but thats the gist of it, so like 1290 after i send all the rebates in. So if it isn't too much, there's room for an upgrade. Probably to the graphics.

By the way, is it the monitor, or the graphics card that decides your max resolution? My highest is 1440x900 right now, but I want to be able to play games on... What was it, 19xx something by 12xx something.

Both have a maximum, though with modern GPU's being as awesome as they are, it's usually the monitor that is the limiting factor.

There is room for an upgrade if you don't count shipping. I think you get charged tax up there as well. I wanted to leave room for that. If you want to upgrade something, there's nothing stopping you.

I'd suggest adding in an aftermarket cooler to make overclocking easier. I haven't really read up on which ones are good, though.

edit: There's a $290 dollar difference between the i7 920 and the i7 940. $290 for an extra .27GHz. It's not worth it. The 965 isn't sold in Canada apparently, and the 975 is $1140. If you were to upgrade, the OEM 960 would be your best bet, but you'd have to get an aftermarket cooler...OEM cpu's don't come with stock ones. That's still about a $370 difference though, including the cooler.

5850's start at $299, and 5870's at $412. That 5770 is overclocked, and is $196.

Sounds like I should just leave it as is. Heck, maybe if I'm lucky some of the components will come down in price in the next couple of months.

I have a feeling though that it's my monitor that has me stuck at 1440x900 but... I don't wanna get rid of it It's so nice. It's got the clearest, sharpest picture I've ever seen. It's a few years old, but it's a 19" LG Flatron Wide, 3000:1 contrast ratio, 2ms response, looks beautiful, in perfect condition still, and it was only $199 like 3 years ago.
