Converting old VHS and audio tapes to digital files

Can anyone recommend a good converter that will transfer VHS videos on tape to my computer without having to burn DVDs? This system needs to be compatible with Windows 7, which I guess is key. Is there a good system made that will also convert old cassette tapes to mp3 files?

Get a TV tuner card for your PC. you can plug a coaxial cable from your VHS machine to your PC and record it.

Cassettes. Got an "Audio In" jack on your sound card? run a cable from the headphone jack of your stereo to the audio in on your laptop. Play the tape and just record from the input using any number of programs.
