{Option A}
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Intel® Pentium® Core 2 Quad Q8200 (2.33GHz, 4MB L2, 1333 MHz FSB)
+
6GB (3 X 2GB) PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory
--------------------------------------------------------------------

{Option B}
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Intel® Core™2 Duo E8500 (3.16GHz, 6MB L2, 1333MHz FSB)
+
2GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1067MHz SODIMM Memory
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Question
1.0 - Does the Core2 Quad mean it's faster than the Duo since it's using 4 cores, or is the Duo faster since 3.16Ghz > 2.33GHz?

1.1 - Is the difference in speed between the DDR2 and DDR3 simply 1067 - 667? (so would that mean Option A has a total speed of 6*667 = 4002 and Option B has a total speed of 2*1067 = 2134? )

Thanks!!

1.0 ) Faster in terms of clock speed, no. It can handle more Volume as apposed to having a higher clock speed. Think of a garden hose, if you have 2 of them side by side (Core 2 Duo). Now put 4 of them side by side (Core 2 Quad). If the C2D pushes 3.16 gpm (and thats per core/hose) and the C2Q pushes 2.33 gpm (gallons per minute) which is really doing more?
the quad right?
it has more space for more work even at a slower core clock.
i hope that helps a little

1.1 ) the speed does not multiply with additional sticks. its a set number
youll just have more space for your pc to use (and thats never a bad thing).
but you should get some faster ram for the C2Q like 800MHz or faster
and then youll be set
the faster the ram the faster the short term memory is

i hope that ive cleared the water for you

I may also add this

think of a fast dual CPU as being a sports card
and slow quads as being trucks

trucks have the most power to lift and carry stuff, wont go as fast but wont freeze alot and will do alot of stuff

sportscars are meant for fast speeds
won't handle much load though

think about that

I would go with option 2 because it has DDR3 at 1067MHz

again, 8 gb DDR2 at 800 mhz
wont run as fast as 4gb DD3 1067MHz

depends what you want to do
if you oplan to encode and compress files at the same time go with the quad core

if you want to play games go with the E8500
