Hey everyone I am new to the forum because I am planning on breaking lose of the chains of my currently stock rig.
I wanted to upgrade my motherboard because currently I am using a BTX style instead of ATX so I cant even change out my dell XPS 420 case for something...well not crappy.
My question is in regard to socket type. After running a little program it says that my intel core 2 is a 775 LGA. This would mean that I would have to buy a motherboard that fits the 775 socket correct? or could that chip be used in a LGA 1366/socket B. It seems that most 775 socket motherboards are lacking power so that would be a question of concern.
I also know that my sound processor is built in from SigmaTel, If i get a new motherboard of equal or higher quality would I have to buy a sound card to keep the high quality or do most higher end MoBo's have good build in sound?
I know for many of you this question might sound stupid but I am new to the computer building so any help is appreciated.
My full specs just for reference is-
Windows 7- 64 bit
Dell motherboard make- 0TP406
Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 socket 775 LGA
3gigs DDR2- Dual.
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX
Sound is from a built in SigmaTel High Def Audio
500g hard drive
