ram not being recognized?

I don't think 'matching' RAM is all that important. I use mismatched all the time and I've never had a problem.

How many sticks do you have and what is the value of each?

i have 4 sticks at 1gb each

Take 1 of the 1gb sticks out and see what it reads, if it still reads them same, then right click on desktop, go to properties, display settings, then advance, and it will take if what is dedicated, and what is shared by video card.

i will take all of the suggestions i have gotten and i will try all of them when i get home and i am at my desktop
