Hello, a lot of people have been talking about lately since the release of the new operating system Windows 7, that if its possible to do the "clean install hack" with the upgrade Disc, just like we were able to do with Vista and save over $100 buying the full retail disc. Well a lot of people have tried it and said that it does not work anymore BUT there are a lot of other ways that can possibly make this method work. I am about to show you one of my ways, that you can "clean install Windows 7" using the upgrade disc:

NOTE: This will only work on Windows Vista computers that have the Recovery Manager feature. (HP & Compaq PCs are the only ones that Ive heard of that has it)

Ok now just to let you know, we are not actually "clean installing" directly using the Windows 7 upgrade Disc, but instead we are going to format Vista using the recovery manager and restore it back to factory settings. Once the computer is completely formatted, we are going to Upgrade it to Windows 7 (that's the option where it keeps your files and just upgrades the computer, but since we formatted the whole system, there are going to be no files to keep)

Steps 1 & 2 only apply to you if you have not made a recovery disc already

Step 1: On your Vista computer go to Start --> All programs --> Recovery manager -->Recovery Disc Creator.

Step 2: Your are going to need up to 3 blank DVDs to create the recovery discs, once you have them insert them and follow the instructions.

Step 3: Insert disc #1 and restart your computer, after you do so , make sure your computer boots from the DVD.

Step 4: Follow the on screen instructions on how to reformat your computer. (Its actually very quick and easy :) )

Step 5: Once your computer computer starts up like a brand new out of the store PC, Insert Windows 7 Upgrade DVD and select upgrade. ( It will say it will keep your files and settings, but since your computer is formatted it wont actually keep anything, since there isn't anything to keep)

Note: This process will also work if you have the full retail version of Windows Vista, Just start from Step 3.

Well you guys, this is one of the processes you could do if you want to have a "clean" version of Windows 7 but cant afford to buy the full retail version.
