My fan in my Dell Inspiron 6400 died and now it overheats. I was loading Windows 7 when it died and it finished and I used it for a little while before it blue screened. If I let it sit for a while and cool down it will start and work so I don't think the CPU is fried, just the fan. Any ideas on where to get another one, cost, how hard to replace, worth it?

Any other manufacturer i'd say it'll be really simple to fix, and not to tricky to find parts. But dell are notoriously more difficult. Google the make model and then the word spares. It's always worth a look.

Ok. I got it open, no big deal really. Just lots of screws. However I can't seemed to find a replacement fan anywhere. Anyone know where I can find one?

Looks like the kind of thing that would be the part for it, only OPer can tell us. That part is characteristically expensive.

YIKES!

That's it though. Now I need to decide what I want to do...

I was thinking about upgrading my laptop anyway. Thanks for the help guys.
