lots of computer problems

hey, well i'm new here and i have a windows xp, and it has lots and lots of viruses because i don't know anything about how to get virus protection and all that. the problem now is that my computer won't open up My Computer, and i have lots of important files there. and i've also noticed that the programs on the computer screens won't open up anymore, like itunes. every time i try and open it up there's this one thing that loads up really quickly and disappears. it's making the computer mess up really bad. can anyone help please
