Tim Berners-Lee, the man credited with creating the World Wide Web, recently said that his only real regret about the whole shebang is forcing people to type out the (essentially unnecessary) double slash after the 'http:' in URLs. Speaking at a symposium on the future of technology, he noted (in reference to the dreaded marks) the paper, trees and human labor that could have been spared without them. Hey Tim: don't sweat it! You've done us enough good turns that we're willing to overlook it.

I don't really mind them that much.

I've never manually typed it in, so it hasn't really been a pain in the ass for me.

I type http:// less that once every two months.

I dont even use www. I don't know why anyone does.

Domain name + .com works fine with everything I have ever used.

I add the www. just because some websites will not work without it, so it's become habbit... like one forum if you log in without the www. you aren't logged in until you type in the www.

I think it they should be there, its like C:\ or ftp:// or /usr/, you need to have the slashes there

I think you should have to spell out everything.

Designing themes for VB you have to type in the complete url if you're not working out of the root directory. http:// has become a habit.
