i5 vs. Phenom II

im still thinking of going with the i5, i have a feeling that it'll last me longer

Good choice. You won't be disappointed.

Simulated i5s and overclocked i5s vs stock 965s... Good benchmarks, lol.

Did you even read anything, or just look at the pictures?

Too bad the 965 is nothing but a 920 chip overclocked. Seriously, admit it. You don't know shit. You've got a long way to go before you show up the guys on these forums.

Definitely go with the i5 as Rohan has suggested. You'll be happier with it down the road and it will perform great.

ok, so i5 it is!!! does anyone know what the reset button does on the antec 1200/902 cases?

It connects to your motherboard and acts as a "restart" button. You can wire it differently if you'd like.

ok, thanks to everyone whos helped me so far!!! i'll post the specs of what im getting in a few minutes after i put it together

I know that the GPU is over powered when compared to the rest of the computer but i want a computer that i wont have to upgrade in a long time, i'll be buying this around christmas so the prices for it will be lower by that time.

And the i5 is just an i7 with no HT and lower memory bandwidth.

Seriously, what do you do for a living? Fast food? Computers isn't your expertise, or you would've chosen legitimate benchmarks, or at least realized that a Core i5 overclocked 1.5GHz over stock compared to a stock P2 X4 965 would obvioulsy favor the i5.

How about we compare a Ferrari to a Volkswagon next?

An Intel CPU will perform up to 50% better than it's AMD counterpart when it comes to gaming. The i5 doesn't really lack in gaming either.

Those first benchmarks can barely be considered legit: The first was an i7 920 setup to run as the i5 750. While the specs then are very similar, it does not necessarily mean they'll run the same.

On the second benchmark, the i5 750 was OVERCLOCKED and the PII was STOCK. But then, here comes the argument, "Even though it showed an OC'ed 750, there also was a stock 750, which beat the 965". True, but all these tests had to deal with memory read/write times. If you look at the synthetic multi-threaded applications tests, the stock PII beats the stock i5 750 hands down. Since these are quad-core processors, I would guess, and guys this is just a wild guess based on no solid hypothesis , that the latter test is really the one that matters the most.

edit: The i5 750 does win in the WinRAR test.
edit2: The PII also comes out on top on the application tests (beating the i7 960)
