so what i would like to know is:-
will these parts actually work:confused: ?
any suggested improvements?
and any suggestions on an operating system? =/

any help would be much appretiated :)

PS this is my first Computer Forum post so i apologise if i've posted this in the wrong place:confused:

Avoid hitachi. They're nicknamed DeathStars. Get a Seagate or WD. I've always had better experiences with WD's. Also, that video card is a little lame compared to the rest of the system. I would recommend a GTX260 or higher. Maybe even SLI since the mobo allows for it. But yeah, it's all good :D

an HD 4870 1gb is very comparable to a core 216 GTX 260

EDIT:

oh...i see...
EVGA GTS 250
your just a Nvidia fan...lol

thanks. i'll look into seagate and WD and i'll take another look at GPU's.

any more suggestions?

I'd recommend you go with Core i5 rather than one of the high end PIIs. The Core i5 750 will edge out the 955 (performs roughly the same as a 965) whilst consuming A LOT less power and overclocking as well if not better.
Core i5 750
Gigabyte LGA 1156 P55 motherboard

Here's a review for you.
Only LGA 1366 supports triple channel RAM. AMD and LGA 1156 support dual channel, so that's a 2x2GB kit. You need something that can function at 1.5V-1.6V for i5.

The HD 4870 1GB is a great card, although you might want to wait for the HD 5800 series on the 23rd. The HD 5870 for the most part has the edge over the GTX 295 and the HD 5850 handily beats the GTX 285. The HD 5850 should be in your price range and will thrash the HD 4870.
