So the only possibility is to rearrange the forums we currently have? One of the big problems I have with this is that OverClocking is under processors. As I've stated before it involves much more components than just the CPU. Can you move all the threads inside Processor to Hardware, then delete the Processors forum, move the OverClocking forum to just under Specialist, and rename it as OverClocking/Modding/Cooling. Would that be possible? I also think that under Programming you could put Web and Computer as a description so you don't need those subforums (The less subforums the better). I also think Media could go under General. So my layout:

Technical:
-Hardware
-Software
-Network & Security
-Server Admin
-Programming (Computer/Web on description)

Specialist:
-Cooling, Modding, and OverClocking
-Devices
-Webhosting (dedicated and shared on description)
-Web design, review, and advertising

General:
-Social Lounge
-Suggestions, comments, and feedback
--Spam Area
--Staff Area
-For Sale/Trade
-Gallery
-Media
-Reviews

Again, I like Techinical/Specialist before General because it gives the idea that we're here for computers first.

I personally think it'd be pretty darn pointless to rearrange what we have now. It's not much of an improvement IMHO.

As others have said, most/all or nothing.

Agreed with Dude. I don't want to change the forums layout unless it's a proper good change. I don't want it halfway. I personally don't see the technical/specialist idea, because a lot of the technical stuff is also a specialist thing, I just think the naming is not suitable.

I also like what Joga says about the general stuff going on the bottom. We are a computer based forum so the computer stuff ought to come first.

I agree. I mean, it's a computer forum. It's not really "specialist" stuff. It's normal computer stuff, really; it just doesn't fit in general.

And I agree. General needs to go at the bottom. It's a computer forum, and that's the bottom line. That needs to be showcased.

David, I understand if you do not want to put your time into moving stuff around (really, I do). However, I think we'd much better off just not doing it at all if the above plan is that plan of attack. I think that most of us agreed on an earlier format, and the one you (and the staff...?) proposed is basically what we have now with a little renaming; which is kind of what we (most of us) did not want this thread to end up at.

And what you guys weren't proposing wasn't just reagainging? Remember, the beauty of forums is the histroy built by pasts posts. It's a gold mine of info that if we do what you guys say is "better' would be virtually lost.

The overclocking forum is dead.. 10 threads (plus a sticky I moved) in however long it has been since it was made, there is no need or reason for it to be on the main page...

Root has thought his layout through in a logical manner, actually putting some thought into how it can be achieved rather than saying that it would be better to push for halfarsing it.. if it is going to be re-arranged, which i personally dont think is necessary.. then his idea has got my support.....

as celegorm said.. you were asking for re-arranging too, but just with no ideas on how to stop the problem of lost threads and saying well we will just halfarse it and forget about the years of threads and just archive them.. not gonna work.. or happen, roots idea is the best shown so far...

I think people already forgot about the overclocking section and neglect it. I know I forgot we had it until I read your post.

+1. I personally prefer root's design to the previously proposed one anyway...

However this ends up though, I think once these rearrangements are done (or not done) there needs to be a ban on any more rearranging suggestions.

Whatever we end up with it's not going to be to everyone's taste. There's been LOADS of different layouts suggested. Some people are for "half-arsing" it, some aren't, some people don't really care what happens to all the threads here at the moment, some do, some want lots of forums, some don't, some people are pushing for their or one particular design as the only real "right" solution, some are more open to a few... I could go on, but you get the idea.

Bottom line is it's David's decision, and I personally feel that the "I want my preferred layout pushed through or no changes at all" attitude displayed by some members is rather selfish. However this turns out... perhaps we should all just be thankful for what we've got rather than moaning about what we want it to be?

Thank god someone outside the staff feels that way too!

I've just been tossing up ideas. Dude, remember that our suggestions can't pass because of the complication it brings (on moving threads). Root suggested some good things, but I think we can do more. The processors forum is completely random seeing as we don't have one for other parts. As far as the OverClocking forum, I think that only hasn't had success because it is not on the main page. If we rename it to OverClocking/Cooling/Modding, I'm sure we'll get more posts in there. Guys, we need to meet in the middle. There's no way everyone will be happy. By the poll, we can tell that a majority wants some sort of rearrangement. Again, because of the implications of keeping our "gold mine" of threads (not being sarcastic just stealing Celegorm's term) we can't really rearrange too much.

edit: For the record (on the OC forum), I've been trying to get that place active, as a lot of computer enthusiasts really like to tinker with their speeds, and that's what our forum is about--computer enthusiasts who like to help others. When I was talking with ATF earlier, he thought that because of our young demographic, OC'ing wasn't getting very far in this forum (requires a lot of cash). His point was very true. I think, if we can get that section out there in the main page, we can attract more enthusiasts (I know, I used this word a lot).
