At least it's a start. I went for the Q6600 because it's a nice and cheep quad core, the equivilant of the AMD above.

I'm going out to buy the parts right now and i've decided to go with the Phenom II x4 940, the motherboard in the setup that "worshipme" posted, an ATI gtx260 or gts250, 4gb of ddr3 ram, and a 500gb hard drive.

Comes to like 900 with taxes from this local computer store. I picked them because tigerdirect stores don't stock all the stuff that they have on the site, and it turns out that the person didn't want to order from an online store. (NCIX and newegg)

The 940 does not support DDR3, only the AM3 CPUs do such as the 945 or the 955.

Make sure you get the GTX 260 Core 216, keep an eye out for the HD 4890 as well if it's the same price, it performs better. And don't pay too much for the GTS 250, it's just a rebranded 9800GTX+

it's actually a great buy right now, the 1GB version is $155.49 before $15 MIR, $140.49 after MIR, the shipping costs shouldn't be much...
