but whats the best way to apply Tx 3 to a quad core?

is it safe to do the 'pea' sized drop, and then push the HSF down onto the CPU and then bring it back up to make sure it covered the whole CPU chip, then put it back down again and secure it in place?

I put two uncooked rice pellet sized drops on my CPU, then take a plastic card, like a credit card, and smooth it over the whole cpu evenly. Not too much, just enough to cover with a light coating.

I would recommend the Arctic Silver 5 compound though, but that's my opinion

That looks good to me. The Cooler Master V8 is a good cooler.

Just follow the directions for applying thermal paste listed here and you'll be fine: Thermal Compound Instructions

AS5 also requires a 200 hour curing time. You don't really need the remover and the V8 isn't that great of a heatsink. It lacks behind a TRUE and just beats a Zalman 9700.

So you're going more for looks than performance? Why not get a Dark Knight? You get both.
