Rep

to be honest I don't think that it'd matter if the rep was reset.

be serious, 90% of the rep is given out by mates, to mates for posts in the social lounge.

taking my own rep for example, the last good rep I got was for the following posts.

this is fairly indicative of all the rep that I've received, well over 1000 rep points,

out of the last ten posts I've received rep for 4/10 relate to my views on soft drugs...
(non of them are for any kind of technical advice being dispensed).

exactly how does this little green bar under my name signify that the computer advice that I give is good and genuine advice?

(the question is rhetorical).

if I were to change 1 thing about the rep system, it's be to make it impossible to give rep in the social lounge, (and possibly remove rep from people where it was given in the social lounge).
then (and in my view only then) the rep system might actually mean something
