Lost HDD Space

I'm thinking, because the numbers are jumping around so much, that when vista scans to see how much free space is on the drive, it just does a quick, inaccurate scan. I'm not an expert or anything though :p

i had a spare 250 GB hdd lying around
so i cloned my 1.5TB hdd (the 118GB of info from it to the 250)
i then restarted my pc and booted into the BIOS
set the boot order to the smaller HDD
and then i did a complete reformat of my 1.5TB hdd
that took a couple of hours
i then cloned all of my info back to the 1.5TB hdd and again i changed the boot order
and i went from 674GB to 1.36TB total disk space (thats what vista is telling me)
so yes you will loose some space
but if you dont have any important files on your HDD
just get Vista Home Premium 64-bit
boot from the CD
and reformat your drive, then install Vista
and enjoy the 'leg room' if you will
