New Harddrive

I'm thinking of buying a new harddrive before going off to college. Currently I have 2 250gb drives. I was thinking about buying one around 500gb, and making the older 250gb into an external(mainly because my GFX card cramps up my case space so much...)
My question is, are there any drives that are much faster then the others? Anything with 7200RPM will be about the same correct?

The Samsung Spinpoint (F1's?) are the fasted 7,200RPM drives out.
