DELL Inspiron 15

well, i dont exactly have the luxury of better design. i think a simple workhorse inspiron shall suffice

also you think its a good investment for a 9 cell battery for $45 extra?

the 6 cell is on average 3 hrs and the 9 is 5 hrs (as said by the salesperson)

also an extra $35 for a core 2 duo?

I'm sure you'll be fine with the Inspiron line.

Sure. I've always went with the extended battery. Keep in mind it's going to bulge out in the back.

The trade off to that, however, is that it does sort of help cool your lappy since the vents can actually let some heat escape if there's any on the bottom, or the heat can radiate away.

Yes because that's 3 hours of idle use (most likely). It will be worth it for the upgrade.

same specs, $50 extra dollars but a core 2 duo and longer battery life, bout 5 hrs

the inspiron upgraded to a core 2 duo and 9 cell battery is about $530

how are lenovo's, they better than dell inspiron?

Well, both are about the same in terms of the audience they're targeting. I don't have experience with Lenovo's other offerings, but it seems like a decent computer.
