You don't need a whole lot of memory for the things your mom is gonna use it for. I've played games before on 2GB RAM with Vista, she should be fine.

Yup. This. Any plain-jane laptop should do just fine if you mom is using it for anything except games. You'd be fine with 2GB. I wouldn't go any lower than that, but 2GB is just fine.

Shop carefully. You can get the same systems from wal mart for less money.
HP is a better all around brand IMHO. I've had my dv6205us for 2 years and not a moments trouble.

Agreed. HP, Sony, Lenovo (though mainly business oriented with some consumer stuff), and (though I disagree for my own reasons) Dell are top tog PC notebook manufacturers. Toshiba, Acer, Asus, etc. are all kind of iffy on what you are getting with your money; at least that's how I feel anyways...
