High Temp!

Eek, hey guys, i've got a PC, 1.8GHz, Quad-Core, 2gb ram, vista.

and i opened SpeedFan and the temperature was on 50 degrees!!!

That's bad right, at 50degrees is it damaging my components?

Also on the speedfan, what does "Automatic Fan Speed" do?

After i used this guide, the temp started to rise- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9aMlyn3YYI

Which components were showing as being those temperatures? Some components can handle higher temperatures, but if it was the CPU I'd be semi-concerned. Graphics cards, for example, are comfortable with such temperatures.

Warmer than I like, but they're fine.

What's the airflow like in your case? Do you have good cable management? And are you running a stock cooler or an after-market one? Nothing on there is too hot as far as I am concerned.

I set the Power option back to Balance, and my temperature is like now 42! :D!
So shall i just keep it balanced?!

There's nothing wrong with a CPU running at 50, it's not damaging components at that temp! It'd have to get way higher than that before I had any serious concern. Yes, it's good to get temperatures down as low as you can by making sure fans are running sensibly and the correct way, there's good air flow in the case and suchlike - but if you've done the above then that sounds good to me.

To put it in perspective, I've had CPUs running above 80 without any permenant damage, though admittedly I wouldn't want to keep them that way!

I put the power options from MAX performance to Balance, and the temperature dropped to 39! :)
