Thing is, 99.9% of people don't know the difference / don't care. Storing stuff as mp3 / m4a instead of flac on servers saves money (less space) so companies will go with that. If enough people complained then the big online stores would be forced to change, but since the demand just isn't there I doubt we'll see it changing any time soon. Unfortunate, but true
