whats the difference between bits, bytes, and hertz?

whats the difference between downloading and installing something

and what is bandwhith

figured i should know what these things are.

Bits and Bytes

Downloading is copying something off of an FTP to your desktop. While installing is typically extracting files and shortcuts and adding lines to your registry to acknowledge it's been "installed".

Hertz is the frequency at which something operates.
Its generally used to tell how fast processors are, but it is also used for RAM.

Oh sorry. If i'm correct, Hertz or Hz stands for cycles per second. So in a computer. 2.4GHz would be 2.4 Million "cycles" per second, and since each "cycle" is a calculation, you can call it, 2.4 million calculations per second. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes Hertz is measure in cycles per second but it doesn't neccesarily mean that it is calculations per second. In most cases it take more than one cycle to do a calculation.

alrite grant i read the thing bout bits and bytes which, by the way was very helpful but i have one question. what does it mean if you say something has a 64 bit os versus a 32 bit or vice versa

64 bit OS is designed tto be run on the newer 64-bit CPU's.
It supports more RAM, and tends to run faster, although I'm not a specialist on this type of thing.
32 bit OS is designed to run on older CPU's but will also run on a 64 bit system. Windows 32 wont support more than 3.25gb RAM.
