Laptop stutters after standby mode/screen saver

Hi all. Long time lurker, first time poster.

I have been having an issue lately with my laptop - a rather lame Acer Aspire 3000. Whenever the laptop comes out of stand-by mode, it starts to 'stutter' in the sense that mouse movement is affected, if I'm listening to music, it skips sometimes like if I was playing a scratched CD, watching a film causes slight stutters, too.

The 'graphics' card in the laptop is an SiS M760GX and is updated with their latest drivers/bios.

This has never been an issue in the past.

Anyone have any potential ideas?

I have sufficient RAM and definitely don't think the problem is attributed to this. I'm sure it's something to so with the on-board graphics card I have.

Spec taken from DXDIAG is:

Acer Aspire 3000
40Gb HD
XP Pro (SP3)
Mobile AMD Sempron 2800+, MMX, 3D Now, 1.6GHz
1120mb Ram (one stick of 1Gb and one of 128Mb)
DirectX 9.0
SiS M760GX chip set (128mb Ram)
Current Display 1280x800

As mentioned, it was running fine before. There are no problems at all before the laptop goes into standby mode. Only way around it right now is to increase the time it takes to stand by.

Cheers
