IMHO, there is no best "maker" of subs. You just look at the quality of the manufacture (what the cone is made of, the magnet used, the RMS and Peak power ratings, etc.). Kickers are okay, but Kenwoods, Pioneers, Alpines, and JL are some of my favorite "brands". Kickers seem to have good quality, but their "good" spec'ed products start a little higher in price than most from what I've seen (evidenced by the link to them a few posts up where they are 80 bucks for the same spec'd Kenwoods that you could get 30-40 bucks cheaper.

DON'T GET THOSE DUALS!!!!! I had that exact same set (different cabinet, but same speakers) and they SUCK! So much distortion it wasn't even funny. Lucky some fool bought them a few years ago at my garage sale. Nonetheless, I took a hefty loss on them. Get something decent like I listed.

Really, anything will do. All of the ones I listed are perfect for what you need and are pretty high quality. I'll search for an amp for you in a bit. In the mean time, you can look for Pioneers (in the 400-600W RMS range....they make superb amps!

EDIT:

Okay, here's some amps (again, in my preferred order):

Ick. That amp only puts out 200 watts and it's basically a no-name brand. Like I said, you have to look at the RMS, the other number that's highly advertised is just the peak wattage...it's basically null. Remember; quality over quantity.

Personally, I'd say this sub (x2) and this amp. If you can't afford that amp, then get this (will need to be bridged), but that's as cheap as you should go. If you can't afford that, I would keep saving--just because you don't want to throw your money down the drain.

That's $280 for the sub and first amp, or $240 for the sub and second amp. Your box can be built from just about anything...any 3/8"-1/2" wood would do...even scrap. If it's crappy looking wood, you can spray paint it or wrap it..or you might not even care if it's stuff in your trunk!

Hell, that's like 1/2 of what my truck is rated for.:eek:

Well, just think; they'd be great for traction in the winter ;)
