is the major minor thing like a combined honours course in the UK, (still studied at university level, (18+) but in two course at once.)...

or rather two half courses at once...

why would it matter what you majored in? in terms of career?

I took a degree in electronics, yet I work in IT... I've worked with people before who've done degrees in business, and work in IT, I've also worked with a qualified pharmacist, who has chosen to work in IT...

unless you;re doing something incredibly specialised, (like being a doctor) then most of the time a degree is just a qualification and it doesn't matter what it's in.

a major in business doesn't necessarily mean that you'll be spending the rest of your life wearing a grey suit trying to be the next Donald Trump.

Haha, here in the US, a major is a grouping of classes one takes in university. I'm 20, and have already finished a year of college. In order to major in something, you have to take all the prerequisites to graduate with that specific major. Usually it takes four years for a major. If you major in business, economics, finance, or anything along those lines, business school is pretty much mandatory. Thus your scholarly experience goes on for another 2 years after college.

I'm switching my major because I no longer want to work in the finance sector, and the major you have in uni pretty much decides what type of job you will have.

Besides, the new career path that I have embarked upon is spinal surgery. In order to become a spinal surgeon, I will still have to major in something, all the while taking the classes required for premed. After I am done with uni, I will take the MCAT, and go on to medical school for an additional four years. After that, I will need 3 years of general surgeon training, and then 2 years of specialized.
