I just hooked up a Zalman heat sink first off the thing is not completly tight I can wiggle it a couple mm to the left and right.

Second off its running completely fine but when I turn on the computer it says that there is a CPU FAN error. I didn't hook it up to the CPU FAN on the motherboard because the pin didn't fit it.

third of all

my temps dropped from 46-48 to 39-40

CPU- AMD PHENOM II 940

You need to hook the fan into the mobo to not get a CPU error

can you post a link of item you bought?

You put that in anyway put the 4pin into the 3pin just so it lines up

That's what i do for mine.

OK so you fixed the pin thing right?

And thats perfectly fine as long as the base of the HSF is FIRMLY on the CPU

I dont think you understand what I am saying. The Zalman heatsink came with a normal fan input its not a HSF input so I think my mobo is recongnizing that way that the heatsink is not on.

The heatsink is clipped on however it still moves around. and its definitly not tight like the stock hsf.

however its doing a better job cooling the cpu.

All you have to do is plug the Fan, on top of the heatsink, into the MOBO to stop the error message

and you still get an error message?

Anyway you used the Thermal compound that came with the fan right? If so that doesn't Seem like a modest drop in Temp. Is the base firmly touching the Processor
