Sony SAW Speakers & Amp

Its an all in one sound system consisting of a 5 disc CD changer, twin tape deck, multi channel amplifier, tuner and an optional turntable. Where the hell did you find it? Sony stopped making it years ago.

Yeah, it has the turntable included (not that I own any records :p) and a remote, but is missing the 3 smaller speakers, and the two big ones (but obviously I have them). I think the model number is LBT-XB80AV. It was in cash converters, hopefully they will still have it next time I go as there surely cant be anything better to power these speakers than their original system.

I found a picture of it on google images, this one doesn't have the turntable but gives an idea of the appearance.

That's the baby. Looks good in the second picture. :D

I sold a few of those back in the days.

Even if you dont get the system a decent surround sound amplifier will do the job. Like the STR-DB798 I linked.

I'll try and get it today or tomorrow and if they don't have it anymore, I'll probably go for one of the ones you linked, thanks. Also thanks for the diagram!

No worries.

Let me know how you get on with this. I like a technical challenge. ;)

They still had it, so I got it. The original system for my speakers is "XB80AV", this amp/system is "XB8AV" which is essentially the same, but slightly older. It's same wattage and the only difference is that some of the buttons are black instead of silver. It works very well, there is not as much bass as with the Denon amp, but there is no more distortion. I also found the remote for the system on ebay so I have ordered that too. They no longer had the turntable, but I'm not bothered as I wouldn't use it anyway.

Sorry to double post. I wanted to ask whether it would be possible to add a subwoofer to my setup. The new amp is a Sony LBT XB8AV. Below is the specification for it:

FRONT SPEAKER: accepts impedance of 8 to 16 ohms (already being used by my 2 SAW Speakes)

SURROUND CENTER SPEAKER: accepts impedance of 8 to 16 ohms (empty)
SURROUND REAR: accepts impedance of 8 to 16 ohms (empty)

The original speakers that were connected to the surround would have been:

Center - 25W 8ohms @ 1kHz 10% THD, REAR - 12.5W + 12.5W 16ohms @ 1kHz 10% THD

So would it be possible to connect a subwoofer to one of those surround speaker plugs? Maybe the center?

Low frequencies consume a bunch of energy from receivers, so I suggest you buy a separate powered subwoofer.

If I get a separate powered subwoofer (I'm guessing that means it has a plug that you plug into all wall socket), how would I link that to my Midi Hi Fi?

I've never heard of your receiver, but there should be a low frequency output that looks like a RCA connection.

I only have an AUX and a Phono on the back, I do get quite decent bass from these speakers, but I want it to go louder or have more bass.
