I have an asus laptop and was doing a total reformat [using the recovery discs provided by asus]... wiping all previous files and data.
I set up my new partitions, 30/90 and chose to install vista on the 30gb partition. I've done this a few times and I know it takes about 20-30 min with a few restarts so I went downstairs to watch some TV to let this process run.
When I came back up, my laptop was stuck on the asus logo screen and every few minutes I hear the sound as if my laptop restarted even though the screen stayed frozen on the asus splash logo.
I can press F1/Esc while it boots and it brings me to the american megatrends check process? where it shows my bios date and tells me usb controllers initialized and autodetected my HDD and CD ROM as working fine. That's as far as it goes.
It no longer boots from disc either, as I can hear it reading the disc but nothing happens.
