Try it with the key on the computer. Make sure you've typed everything right. If it doesn't work, I think the best solution is to call Microsoft for a new one. Just give them the old key on the side of the computer.

I know you have it working but for future reference i have found using a windows xp oem cd ive used this method before with prefab computers and its worked fine . Just get a win xp oem cd for the right edition and service pack and it should work fine . If you dont know where to look im sure you should be able to find them bobbing about on torrent sites etc
