How can i tell how fast of ram i can go and how much

if you have windows xp the maximum ram that windows supports is 3.25 gb and the maximum that vista supports is 8 gb

Only if your motherboard can support it. You might be able to go up to DDR400 but you won't see any real life performance gains. 2GB RAM is more than enough to fuel XP.

The fastest available is DDR400, but I really don't think you'll see very much of a performance improvement. But if it's cheaper than the DDR333, then by all means grab it.

If you are running XP, a total of 2GB is about the sweet spot for good performance. For Vista, look for around 4GB of total system memory.

Deja vu?
