Help Vista won't let me install my Vista ultimate 64bit OEM disk!

And most of the time the key for a laptop or desktop prebuilt will not work with an retail or OEM copy of a windows OS. Apples and oranges.
I think to just keep from going around in circles with this let's try this.
Go the hard drive makers web site and get the formatting software. Then follow the instructions for making a bootable copy. I use the thumb drive versions on Seagate and western digital. Make sure you have the usb setting in the bios to allow booting from a usb device. Once you get booted up and the menu pops up select the recertify function. It clears everything off the platter and puts all zeros back on it. Once you start it DO NOT STOP IT!!!
It takes a good while to run so don't get impatient.
I do this to all my systems for a true fresh start for a new OS install. I can't help you with key issues and that sort of thing but this will give you a clean slate to start over on.
