why are they so expensive second hand? WTF they old and outdated. For the price people are asking for them I could at least buy a mobo and an phenom quad core...some are even $450 Ive seen. Holy smoke a pole batman....
I understand its because they are discontinued and now in demand for an easy upgrade and ppl with them are capitalizing on it....but theres no way Im spending $350 cdn on an outdated CPU when I can get a quad core phenom, mobo and 4gb memory for that price. I guess its because some dumbnuts' will so no everyone must.

Mmmm.

I'm looking at Opteron 185's and FX60's at the moment for my set up.

I don't know where your looking and what the exchange rates are but I cannot get a new ASUS AM2+ Board, Phenom CPU and RAM for £150!!!!

My friend brought a bundle, Athlon 5000, very cheap 1GB RAM and a very cheap board from Maplin and my set up with an OC'd Opteron 165 beat his set up all day long.

I'd much rather spend £150 on the best CPU for my board than buy a slower new set up for the same price.

So thats probably why people buy second hand 939 CPU's and as long as the demand is there the prices will be high-ish although I do agree that some sellers are blatently over-pricing them.

I guess its because some dumbnuts' will so no everyone must.

Show a dumbnut a brand new Phenom CPU, Crucial Ballistix Memory and an ATX SLI/XFire ASUS motherboard for the same price as an FX 60.

That was just put together using the lower priced parts of the brands you metioned. I could go with better, faster components and still stay under the cost of an outdated FX60. :p

a quick search on ebay shows me prices from $72usd for an athlon 3800 dual core...to $480usd for a 4800+ toledo core.

Now you also get faster memory, better onboard graphics and HDMI output...plus a quad core. So to me it makes no feasible sense to buy a dual core socket 939 cpu for more than $75

You're right, it doesn't make any sense to spend that much for an outdated CPU. But you know the old saying, there's a sucker born every minute.

I think it's because there are A LOT of people who bought 939 mobos with AGP and DDR RAM, so the CPU is the only real upgrade path.
