CD-R is the way to go. I've had issues trying to boot and load 8.10 from a DVD Rom, so I'd recommend using a CD and booting from a regular CD drive.
If you have an ISO, you should be able to open any burning prog and it will burn the image to CD

i tried to boot the computer with the ISO thing on a CD and it just took me to the black screen and did nothing!!

You need to open the ISO file with a CD burning software, since it is a disc image. Info on doing such. Once you do that, it should be a fully bootable disc for you.
