If your not overclocking, i reccomemend a core 2 duo. It ia faster at stock and since your a kid, you won't need to use multi threaded programs.

But the quad will last you longer and the apps still get distributed individually over the four cores. None of the new lines of processors are dual core; they are all four or more cores. If you can afford a quad, and you want it, get it.

Who said you have to OC? A quad core without overclocking is definitely no worse (better, actually) than a dual core.
