please guys, really need help

hey, my friend has a laptop, yestaday tried to play a DVD, and the laptop froze, he tried to turn it off and on again, but now it will only go to the advent screen and then the black screen with the flashing white bit(sorry not very technical) and wont do anything
any suggestions of how to fix it?

If it is under warranty try sending it back to the makers of the Laptop and have them fix it. If its not, then you have 1 of 2 options.
Option 1: If you or your friend are not very technical and knowledgeable about computers than you could take into Best Buy's Geek Squad or a computer repair shop and have them fix it, although that might be expensive.
2. If you know what you are doing you could open up your laptop and try reseating the graphics card or replace your hard drive.

dude, you're getting ahead of yourself here, replacing parts or sending it in under warranty are some of the absolute last steps that should be taken in the troubleshooting process, not the first suggestions...
