Cooling Pad Fans?

Hey everyone,

I am new to the forums here but I was wondering if maybe some of you could help me with an issue I've got...

My Dell XPS M1710 notebook idles at about 80 degrees celsius (Dell has replaced my video card 2 times, 3rd is on the way). Anyways, that is besides the point.

I recently purchased an NZXT Cryo LX cooling pad for my computer. It's got three 120x120x25mm fans (3 pins) with an adjustable thing on the side to change the temperature from high to low or whatever.

My question is as follows: I would like to replace the three fans with some MUCH better ones. Price is not an object so please don't complain about that! I also don't care about noise at all. Some cool ones I found were the Delta FFB1212EH fans - they will fit fine and all and put out 150+ CFM at 4000 RPM and they have a 3 pin option. However, the problem is that they EACH put out 18 watts. I don't know ANYTHING about electronics or cooling pads...

But would it be possible to install these three fans in the cooling pad without breaking anything and allowing the fans to run at full speed? Would the adjustable meter still work to change the speed from high to low?

Please help me fellas, I would really appreciate it. Thanks a bunch!

I believe USB is 5v source with 2.5W max, so you are probably going to have a BIG problem with fans with more wattage since they are going to be powered by a USB port.

Thank you dude, that is good to know.

However, this particular cooling pad ALSO has it's own power cord... even though the power cord still plugs into a USB port, does this still apply?

If that's the case though, what kind of fans should I be looking at ... or should I just leave them the same?

Please do not bump threads so quickly. If you notice, you were too quick so it auto-merged your post, therefore nullifying the bump.

My point is exactly that. A USB power cord isn't really a power cord...it's still going to be limited to 2.5W and 5V. So the only way around that would be to find a 12V source to run the fans. For instance, this is why printers can't run on USB alone..not enough wattage or volts--so they have power supplies. That's the concept here. The fans in that cooling pad are going to be low watt, low volt fans.
