I'm going to look at updating apache, possibly today at 6.00GMT or if not tomorrow at the same time.

Awesome. Possibly just in time too. There's a rumor of a huge zero day exploit that will affect the entire internet on March the 13th. This may or may not be related to the major botnet that will become active on March the 13th.

Well I just tried to do the update and as per usual, nothing works and it starts to become a headache.

I downloaded 2.2.11 and went to install - it prompts me to uninstall current version which is fair enough.

Add/remove programs has now stopped working, just sits there saying populating list. Seems this is a known problem with microsoft (again they are a pain in the arse). I tried their fixes or re-registering some dlls.

I hunt around for some command line uninstallations of apache. When I go to install 2.2.11, it appears the windows installation service is not available.

I revisit apache.org to download a source distribution, and what do you know - every src distro gets a 404 not found error! (http://httpd.apache.org/download.cgi)

Why not make the move to linux?

Why not make the move to linux?

I think thats the long term goal now. Last month I made the swtich on my desktop and am building confidence on the linux platform. I'm going to experiment with all the webserver components and hopefully when I feel confident running a linux system I'll make the swtich :D

Ever though about migrating to linux in a virtual environment? Slight performance hit but makes setup and maintenance alot easier, very easy since you can have two copy's of the server on the same physical computer.
