what is 8+1 phase power design?

Ok whats with this board?: Asus 750a Sli

It claims to have 8+1 phase (click manufactuer product page) but i only see a 4 pin cpu power connecter so how does it have a 8+1 phase? Also what is these phases 4+1, 8+1, 8+2 and does it help in the performance of the motherboard? does it help for overclocking?
 
I think it has to do with voltage regulation (VRM's?). Maybe someone else can chime in.
 
i'm just trying to find out why that board is so expensive when the 790gx series is like $30 cheaper and they have on board video
 
The Phases, Give a better power increase to the CPU... And other thing's that have power phases wired to them, So it increase's the performance I believe? Correct me if Im wrong?
