A Dilemma! Quick reply please

Hey guys,

I built my computer on Saturday;

Intel Quad Q8200 2.33Ghz
Asus P5Q SE
Kingston 4GB DDR2 PC6400 800Mhz
Gigabyte 9800GTX+ 1GB
Seagate Barracuda 500GB 7200rpm
Cooler master extreme 550W

I want to emphasise that i will be getting a 22" wide screen LCD, so i think having the extra RAM might help?

Now, i just realised last night that for the Gigabyte 9800GTX+ 1GB a lot of other people cannot update the drivers unless you flash the BIOS. There is a 16 page thread about this issue on the nivida forums over here: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=84478&st=0

As far as i have read, a lot of people have flashed their VGA BIOS and the drivers seem to work perfectly but the on-board fan seems to run at max speed all the time and i don't want that happening.

Now what i can do is, go back and swap this card for either of these;

Asus EN9800GTX+ 512MB (Same price as Gigabyte 9800GTX+ 1GB)
Asus HD4850 512MB
Gigabyte HD4850 512MB
Gigabyte HD4850 1GB

I can swap it for either of the above listed.
Could anyone please quickly recommend a good one for me as i have to go this afternoon to swap it.

Out of that list I'd go with the Asus HD4850.

The 512MB or the 1GB version? considering that i have a 22" WS

I would suggest another 9800GTX+. It beats the 4850 in most tests at higher resolutions.

Oh darn. I had it backwards. I knew the HD4850 outperformed the 9800GTX+ at different resolutions, but I couldn't recall which so I took at stab. Regardless, it's not that significant of a difference. You'll be fine either way. If you go with the HD4850 get a 512MB version.

So the Asus EN9800GTX+ would probably be the one to go for.

Yeah, the 9800GTX+ beats the 4850 in most tests, get it.
