CPU upgrade

Teny, I used to have the same mobo chipset and it would run a C2D.

Just because your chipset worked, doesnt mean his will. Only certain 945 intel boards support the C2D, and his board is not one of them.

only these boards are compatible with the C2Ds.

thx AR, that helps. It is a pentium 4 631

Im assuming its this CPU?
I doubt you will get much performance increase since your CPU is clocked at 3.0Ghz.
Getting a Dual Core now will only benefit you if you plan on doing a lot of multitasking.

You can get any CPU listed in this page, i dont seem to find any of those on newegg though.

The expense of a new CPU really isn't worth the small performance increase over your current P4. The two fastest you can use are the Pentium 4 672 3.80 GHz or a Pentium D (dual core) 960 3.60GHz.

So it is not worth it then. It is a good thing you guys helped me out on that. I can't believe how much my school screwed me on this PC. $700 in 2006 for a single core CPU, 70GB HD, P4 with XP Pro. Just an on-board sound card and video card. I can only imagine how much better of a rig I could of had if I bought it on my own for that type of money. I figured my school would have gotten us a better deal since they were bought in bulk. A-holes.

Edit: Thx for all the help with this. I appreciate it.
