Fixing RAM frequency

In my new setup, I'm using this ram http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231166 and this mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131329

First off, I'm in xp pro 32-bit, so it only shows up as 3.25 gb, which I guess is normal. In cpu-z, it's only showing as single channel and 400 mhz, even though it should be 1066. How can i fix this?

On your motherboard, check to see which slots you need to put the memory in for dual channel. It's probably not the first 2 memory slots. On my motherboard (Asus) I had to put the dual channel ram in the 1st and 3rd ram slots. Check your motherboard's manual to see which slots you need to put the ram in for dual channel.

Ah, I figured it would read right at 1066 but I guess I was wrong. I will check the mobo; thanks for the help.

The reason it's only coming up as pc2 6400 is thats probably all your motherboard supports, your ram is pc2 8500.

In the link I posted, it gives the memory standard as DDR2 1066, so I figured the memory would automatically match that.

That's is VERY true. It should be at 1066 hmmm can u try setting it manually in bios?

Hmm....I was thinking of that, you might have to adjust it in the bios to get it to run full speed.

When the system boots keep pressing "DEL" u then should boot in BIOS. Look around the options and you should see something like DRAM that is set to 800. try changing the divider until u get 1066 speed. I know this is not the best explanation, but every bios is different

Well, my ram isn't on the compatibility list for the motherboard... the ddr2 800 set is, but not the 1066. Would that make it only run at a max speed of 800?
