Hey guys, im going to be purchasing a new board soon and im not sure if i should go with the 780i, 780i FTW, or the 790i. Im not a crazy specialist in mobo's, i know enough but i know their is people out their that know more than me so i just want to double check and get the community's intake on my situation.

I am currently running an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 with a Corsair TX850w. I do want to overclock, my current CPU speeds are 2.66Ghz but want to possibly overclock my CPU to 3.5Ghz, maybe higher if its stable and does not get to hot. My current board sucks so dont really bother asking me what it is.

Buy.com had a good deal on the 780i FTW but i guess it is gone now and all three of these are in the $200 range so im listing all 3, i know the 790i requires DDR3 memory but most likely i will be buying new memory for the 780i to, so that should not be a problem(will give my current board with memory to my dad to upgrade his low end pc). Of course the cheaper the better, if anybody finds a good deal any where let me know, im currently looking at buy.com and newegg

Thanks for the help guys, and i WILL NOT be purchasing an i7 or another cpu for another year or year 1/2

NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT RECOMMEND ANY OTHER BOARDS, ASUS, GIGABYTE, etc.

If you go with the 790i, you will be forced to buy DDR3, which is twice the price of DDR2 and offers zero benefit on a C2 platform due to the FSB bottleneck.

I'd go with the 780i or even better, an X38/X48.

i will end up buying new ram for the 780i anyways cause i dont want my current mobo to go to waste so i will just give it to my dad with the ram i currently have. Plus when i decide to upgrade to socket 1366 boards i will already have DDR3 ram

He does a lot of music and video editing so he will need a new mobo in my opinion cause the one he has now sucks.

For instance the Corsair XMS3 DHX:

yes it is a little more expensive and i need 4 gigs, i cant go less than that and i do not need to go higher unless of course someone finds better ram with more gigs for the same price as the DHX i listed above.
