I know it was confusing but thanks for seeing through it and giving some sound advice (literally).

If anyone still thinks there's a possible chance of getting these babies to work with something home grown, I'll post a few pics of the setup/connections/etc tomorrow.

When using 'passive' speakers they need to be driven by a power amplifier. The 'line level' outputs from your PC ain't enough to drive passive speaker systems.

'Active' speakers have an internal power amplifier and would work in this situation.

There's loads of amplifiers out there you can choose from to run your speaker system.
