how big?

im formatting my new drive wd sent me yesterday to replace my dieing drive
so how big of a partition does vista need? 20g? or less?

With updates and all that, I'd make it no smaller than 25GB just to give it play room.

I wouldn't go any smaller than 30GB but that's just me.

I don't do a partition on mine. My Vista drive is 300GB.

Then I have a separate drive for all my media.

usually 40GB would be more then enough for just an everyday use computer. But if you are planning to load it up with a lot of programs/games...you may want to give yourself some space.

Games and other programs could always be put on another partition though. But you do raise a good point.
