Laptop dvd drive in desktop comp?

Don't listen to him. It's very possible. You can buy an external enclosure and use it by USB of Firewire.

when i put a disk in my desktop dvd drive just winds up then suddenly stops, just keeps repeating that.

i was spraying my case with an air can and while the tray was open i may have sprayed inside. would that have affected it?

The air can probably wouldn't have caused the problem... have you made any other changes to the system at all?

it completely failed when i made a change to ubuntu x64. ubuntu cannot even idenify my dvd drive but in my bios it can define the product name and model number

Alright, if you are currently running Ubuntu x64 then you may want to check the user forums for a driver. If you want, PM me the model number and I'll see if I can track you one down.

yea you can find an adapter on ebay that will convert the connection on the back of the laptop drive to a standard IDE connection
