My computer has gone very very slow and I cannot use the start button or the task bar as it seems to be frozen, not sure if there is a virus on the computer or not.

I am trying to restore but not sure how to restore without using the start button.

Try downloading some Anti-Virus and run a scan to see if there are any viruses.

I use AVG, seems to be working well..

If all else fails you could reformat your computer. That's what I usually do.

Wait-a-sec. Surely to goodness you're not thinking that anyone would go online without an Ant-Virus program installed?

I mean, if he did, his computer could be buggered already.

liquorice, try booting into safe mode.
while the computer is booting up, hit the f8 key and select safe mode start up.
system restore is in the all programs -accessories-system tools folder.
as was suggested by others, you must make sure you have a robust firewall and anti virus installed, as system restore won't help you if a virus is the cause of your problem.
back any music, photos or important documents that you dont want
lose as soon as you can.
