[i need one lol]

my main use for it would be for:
- architecture [major]
- music
- video [no lag while watching]
- web surfing
- basic computer usages [smooth/lagless]

and to some extent,
MAYBE some gaming.

but my main desire is for the computer to NOT lag
or be slow in any manner.
ex:
- opening autocad or using it
and as a result, it lags.
- watching movie/video and picture frame skips/lags
- computer lagging/not responding in general

and for the computer to be as SILENT as possible.

so is this build good enough for these specification?
- downgrade? [if its a must]
- upgrade?
- additional parts?
- price limit 2k max

any help would be great
thx :]

Do you WANT to spend 2K? If you do, you could probably get a wicked i7 build or Phenom II build out of that...I haven't been up on that newer stuff lately though, but others will be around to help you on that.

If you want to stick of best price/performance ratio:
Kick the E8500 and get an 8400
OR
Kick the C2D altogether and just get a Quad...they've really come down in price. Worshipme will probably help with this cuz he is usually pushing the Quad bandwagon...I personally have only owned C2D's due to the prices when I purchased.

DVD drive looks A.O.K...I've got Samsungs in mine. My older one just went out but they are so cheap that I don't care. The other one's working fantastically still.

If you don't need a 1TB drive, don't get it and saves a little dough.
I've got 2 of these 750's (one internal, one external)
Or here's a decent 500GB

You can get equally good PSUs for a lower price:
I've got this OCZ
Here's this Thermaltake also

Here's a nice P45 Gigabyte board

RAM choice is great. If you plan on OCing, OCZ tends to be better (so I hear)

Your case is kinda spendy for a midtower (IMHO), but I don't know what you like and don't like so I won't suggest anything.

Also, for the money, I'd suggest this 4870...but I have no idea how nvidia's stuff compares with ati's cuz I haven't needed a gfx card in a while. I'm not sure but I know nvidias new stuff is better than one you have down. Someone will probably help you here.

I'd go with a quad core, since they are so affordable these days. AMD have just released the Phenom II line which are brilliant price to performance CPUs. There's really no reason to go for a dual with the budget you're on.
Phenom II 920.
790GX motherboard. <- Great mobos to pair with a Phenom.

Way overpriced IMO, like dude said, a HD 4870 512MB will destroy a 9800GTX for the same price.

EDIT: Damn, the 4870s are even cheaper than they were before, they're below $200 now, holy crap.

I'd go with this PSU, I like modular :D EDIT: <- <- That's a link, it's just not underlined for some reason.

Go with some 1066 for the Phenom. EDIT: <- <- That's a link, it's just not underlined for some reason.

yeah then just get a quad and also switch the 9800gtx with 4870 also switch the psu with the ocz that dude56013 recommended
