eSata Problems?

I have a 500Gb external My Book. It has ubs, two firewire ports, and an esata post. I recently bought a eSata to Sata cable off newegg and plugged it in with the wire just coming out the back og my case to the external drive. The only problem that I'm having is that I'm not getting eSata speeds. I'm getting ubs and slower speeds. It takes about 5 min to transfer a 2Gb file. Is there something i'm doing wrong?

The bus is faster but not the drives. Sata or eSata drives are still limited by the ATA standards. You should be seeing some improvement over usb and firewire for readily available access times without any lag but there won't be any great speed increase seen.
