Besides, clearing your internet cache, removing viruses & spyware and defraging, what other steps would help a computer speed up?

Maybe too many unnecessary programs? I have gone through all my programs and i use them all in one way or another. The two programs i have that can use a lot of resources are limewire (if left running for hours) and firefox can have the same effect when playing an online movie, free video converter (this 1 program running alone takes my CPU up to 100% easily :( ) - this was the only free, successful and user friendly converter that i could find.

I have checked my virtual memory and it hasnt been changed by any foreign means.

My specs are Intel Centrino, Win XP Pro SP3, 1 GB RAM, 30GB harddrive.

Any suggestions? Maybe running scans in safe mode could help?

a registry cleaner such as ccleaner is a good idea. when you install and uninstall programs, add updates, etc, it can leave crap in your registry that can bog it down.

Try removing programs from system start up in the MSConfig window.

That should speed things up a little.
